In many of M. C. Escher's iconic works the space around a depicted object become its own object of attention in a visual trick in which negative space becomes positive space. In “fade” sonorities transform through careful releases creating melody and harmony in the sound they leave behind. Here the focus on negative sound is a focus on decay, bringing new life into the moments before sounds die. The work proceeds with the simplicity and elegance of an evaporating Baroque prelude.
